Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.
— Oscar Wilde.
Societal pressure. Peer pressure. Family pressure. Most of the times, we make our career choices because of these reasons. Do we ever ask ourselves, what do we really want to do?
What If we actually take up a career option which we are passionate about? It’s not easy to actually find that one thing which you genuinely connect with. But if you do find out, follow that. We grow up in a society that pressurises us to become an engineer, a doctor, or even a lawyer. It becomes impossible to realise what is our calling. We often follow the path of what our parents have decided for us. We doubt our intuitions about ourselves and believe in theirs.
Ask yourself one question –
What can we do all day long? As human psychology suggests, something that we never really realise, human beings are mostly comfortable in doing things they love and are driven about. The reason we feel that our work pressure leads us to depression, at times, is because we do work which we do not love. Why do you think Sharukh Khan is who he is today? Simple reason – he does what he was born to do and loves every bit of it.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”, says Steve Jobs.
Do not let the noise of other people drown you and make you question what you believe in. Let your ideas flow and always follow your intuition. As individuals, if we love one thing, we can do that every day. Once we actually start doing the work we feel driven towards, the chances of work stress become minimal.
Every day when you wake up, remember to ask one simple question- can I do this all day?
