“Having a sense of purpose is having a sense of self. A course to plot is a destination to hope for.”
Bryant H. McGill
Rashi Jain, a student of Public Relations-Corporate Communications in Seneca College, grew up in a joint family where men were the sole breadwinners and women were homemakers. However, her dreams were big. Unlike the rest of the women in her family, Rashi wanted to work and create a name for herself and her mother.
Her mom always told her, “My whole life I’ve been tied down to this place, and this is what I don’t want for my girl.” To fulfill her mother’s dreams, Rashi decided to travel abroad to pursue her higher education.
Rashi isn’t someone who will sit back and let life decide for her.
She always wanted to be an independent strong woman, someone that her mother always saw in her. Rashi knew that it was her mother’s faith that gave her the strength to travel continents for a better future.
Building up on the rage within her, Rashi knew she would have to pave her own path.
“I wanted to challenge myself and see how far I go.”
Rashi believed in pushing herself to boundaries she wasn’t aware of. After narrowing down her options, she chose Canada for her education. She took admission in Public Relations – Corporate Communications graduate certificate program of Seneca College. She packed her bags and left for Canada in August 2019. This was a turning point in her life. This course not only pushed her out of her comfort zone but also gave her a sense of being independent.
Rashi gave life a purpose, a purpose to fulfill her mother’s dream.

We are not born with a purpose to accomplish in our life, we create and develop what we want to do over time. Like Rashi was not born with the purpose of moving to Canada in order to fulfill her mother’s dream It was her decision to do so; she made that a purpose for her life. Sometimes, the circumstances may mold our decisions, but at the end it comes down to our choices in hand.
And sometimes, it is okay to not have a purpose. It doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong. But just imagine how would if you feel if you eat a donut but it is not sweet or you watch a funny which is not funny at all. The same way, life without a purpose makes you breathing not living.
Bringing purpose simply means creating purpose around the things that bring you happiness and joy.
I love hiking. I read a lot about stars and tarot cards. I love watching soccer. Life question interest me. I do not have one particular purpose unlike Rashi, that motivates me.
Everything I love-motivates me; gives me a purpose to do something in life, professionally or personally. It doesn’t have to be necessarily one particular thing that pumps the adrenaline rush.
Seek out the things you love and enjoy doing; things that bring joy and happiness to you. Focus on those and create a purpose every day.
You may not change the world at large, but you will change your world since that’s the world you live in.
I choose….To live not just exist.
What do you choose ?
